The application of two-dimensional codes seems to permeate all aspects of our lives overnight, such as subway advertisements, newspapers, train tickets, airline tickets, fast food restaurants, cinemas, group buying websites and various commodity packaging. As a part of the Internet of Things industry, the application of two-dimensional codes has never been so concerned. Some experts even predict that it will form hundreds of billions of market space in two or three years.

At present, our country has entered the era of code-sweeping. When people are shopping, consuming and participating in activities, it is customary to sweep two-dimensional code. But for the use of two-dimensional codes, many people still have doubts, such as whether two-dimensional codes are unique, how high security, whether to brush two-dimensional codes abroad to consume, and so on. During the conference, the reporter interviewed Zhang Chao, president of Zhongguancun Institute of Two-Dimensional Code Technology.

Question 1: Are two-dimensional codes unique and will there be duplication?

As we all know, two-dimensional codes are a kind of encoding method to represent information by geometric figures. According to the calculation of permutation and combination, the number of two-dimensional codes is almost infinite, and there is no need to worry about running out. However, every application and a large number of websites can generate two-dimensional codes, which will not be duplicated?

Zhang Chao said: "Uniqueness needs to be discussed in what kind of environment or system it is placed in. For example, the membership card issued by the mall is the only one in the mall system, but it may not be the only one out of the mall system. In this sense, the uniqueness of Weichat two-dimensional codes is the only one in the Weichat system. Therefore, it is necessary for a publishing agency to formulate a unified standard and register and issue the two-dimensional codes, so as to ensure the uniqueness of the two-dimensional codes sent out and the two-dimensional codes used on each object.

Question 2: Is it safe to brush two-dimensional codes?

Zhang Chao said that the security problem is relatively complex, mainly involving two aspects, namely, the issuance and identification of two-dimensional codes.

Zhang Chao thinks: "Who is the main issuer is very important. If the issuer is a regular institution, the security will be high accordingly. If we download a two-dimensional code generation software from the Internet and use it to generate two-dimensional code, whether there is a trading program, Trojan horse program, hidden virus, etc. in the two-dimensional code, we can not guarantee it. The second aspect is whether the scanning software itself can identify the source of the two-dimensional code at the recognition end. Therefore, we formulate a unified standard for decoding and recognition.

Question 3: Which is better, two-dimensional code or bar code?

Zhang Chao introduced that barcode is one-dimensional code, mainly by the thickness of lines to display information. Compared with one-dimensional code, two-dimensional code has many advantages.

Zhang Chao said, "First, the storage capacity is larger than one-dimensional code. Two-dimensional codes can store not only numbers and letters, but also pictures, audio and video. Second, the two-dimensional code is more efficient to read. We will find that scanning two-dimensional code is faster than scanning one-dimensional code. Thirdly, the fault-tolerant mechanism of two-dimensional codes is good. In theory, 20% integrity of two-dimensional code can read out the whole two-dimensional code information. One-dimensional codes are especially difficult to read when they fold slightly.

Question 4: Can you brush two-dimensional code to purchase and consume when you go abroad?

Two-dimensional code is an open technology, Zhang Chao said, it can be used anywhere, but whether the two-dimensional code payment of Wechat can be used in financial business depends on the local environment.

Zhang Chao introduced: "For example, in India, two-dimensional code payment is very common now, but in Europe, two-dimensional code payment has developed very slowly, and probably few people use it. This involves whether Wechat has access to foreign banking systems. If local institutions provide access to Wechat and the local government allows it to carry out such payment business, then it can carry out.

The popularity of smartphones and tablets has spawned two-dimensional code applications that were not considered promising before, and people are competing to invest a lot of resources in technology research and development. Ma Huateng said: Two-dimensional code is the entrance to the mobile Internet. With the vigorous development of the domestic Internet of Things industry, I believe that more two-dimensional code technology application solutions have been developed and applied to the daily life of all walks of life. At that time, two-dimensional code will become the real reality of mobile Internet access.
